On Sunday Nov 6th, much to mommy and daddy's surprise, my water broke. We didn't quite exactly know at first what was happening as I frequently make trips to the bathroom. However, after several change of clothes and reading the pregnancy books sprawled out on our bed, we decided to contact the Labor and Delivery unit at UCLA as was our emergency plan. After talking with the OB on duty, he gave us the choice to drive up to UCLA (which he believed we had the time) or to go to our local hospital for a check in hopes we'd get transferred up to UCLA. It was a tough choice, but we felt more comfortable having me examined and hoping we'd have enough time to be transferred to UCLA. We didn't know if we were in an emergency situation or how dilated I was, and didn't want to risk something happening in the car on our drive to UCLA, so we opted to go locally. The local hospital was very understanding and moved quickly to get me transferred via ambulance (with no sirens or lights).
Once we knew what was going on, we decided it was time to contact our family. Of course no one expected this news, so it was no wonder we couldn't get a hold of my parents. Yet after numerous missed called, then a call from Christina and Bryan, did they realize something was up. My family made a quick trip to visit before the transfer. We gave them some instructions, but at least we had the sense enough to pack a small bag before heading to the ER.

After settling into UCLA the rest of our journey included waiting and monitoring.
We were excited that our little Spud was coming, but a bit frazzled too. Pitocen was provided to help move labor along. By early Tuesday morning they were confident our little Spud would make an appearance quite soon. Family were ushered out while the medical team slowly set up for delivery, and we grew more apprehensive. Just after 9:00am our little Spud arrived. We were so intently looking at the face, that both of us neglected to look down for the gender. It wasn't until the nurse prompted Jay that we finally realized "It's a girl!" Welcome Kate Laura. Looks like the majority of you blog readers (64%) thought it was a girl; congrats you were right!

It was wonderful to come home to a clean house, set up nursery, flower bouquets, and a stocked frig. Thank you Nana, Yia-yia, and Aunt Jennifer. But the best was to see a sign across the living/dining room that said "Welcome Home Kate!"
